JAVRI MONASTERY
Founded in 545 and completed in 586-605, the monastery was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
Jvari Monastery stands on the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia.
MTSKHETA
The capital of the Kingdom of Eastern Georgia is located in the state of Sheida Kartli. It is one of the oldest cities in Georgia. It was built in the second half of the first millennium BC by Jesus Christ.
The period of stubborn growth began in the early centuries of Christianity and continued until the sixth century AD. After the transfer of the capital to Tbilisi in the 6th century AD, it remains a major religious center, with numerous churches and cathedrals being built later.
Explorations in and around the city include valuable artifacts from the pre-Christian culture of Jesus Christ to the 1st to 6th centuries AD.
